New Year's Eve - Second Serving

Budapest Fair
At this time the capital celebrates the final withdrawal of the Russian army from the territory of the country (30th June, 1991). You can participate in different outdoor events which offer you various programmes ranging from jazz concerts through programmes for children. It is worth giving it a try!

BudaFest - Summer Music Festival
An event organized every year where the fans of classical music can choose from different programmes.
Valley of Arts
If you feel you know the capital well, or you would simply like to move out a bit, the best decision you could make is to hop on the train and go to Kapolcs. The Valley of Arts is a series of programmes where the visitors are welcome in 6 small villages from 29th July until 6 August. There are a lot of surprises: historical and religious music festival, jazz festival, theatre and rock festival, children and teenager programmes. It is worth a try!
Fish soup celebration in Baja
Every year on the second Saturday of June a great fishermen tavern is made at the main square of this small town along the Danube. There are more than 2000 stew-pots where the traditional Hungarian fish soup is cooked and there is accompanist folk music.
Szeged Outdoor Stage
There is a gigantic stage with a 4000-seat mobile auditorium built in front of the impressive dome. All the palatial performances are organized in July and August. The programme is enriched with the performances of international stars.
Swim across Lake Balaton
If you feel fit enough, hop on the train and come to Lake Balaton. This is a real challenge, but you can do it, it is only 5200 metres… You can take part on 22nd July, however, medical check-up is compulsory on the spot!

Formula 1
Come and have a look how the "big ones" accelerate on the Hungarian concrete! It is an international sport event with a great number of visitors and with hyperatmosphere!
Sziget Festival
This is the last and most complex event of the summer! A few hundreds of bands, drama groups, performers etc. participate in this event that has been organised every August for 10 years now. There are a lot of scenes parallel with each other where you can choose from the programs you prefer day and night for a whole week. DON'T MISS IT!
Fireworks
On 20th August more thousands walk to the banks of the Danube to see the fireworks organised every year for the nameday of our first king St. Stephen who founded the Hungarian state in the year 1000. You don't need to worry, there is a perfect view from the roof of the hostel. You can have it from 9 o'clock!
Celebration of Crafts
There is one of the events of 20th August that we may lay emphasis on, it is the Celebration of Crafts organised in the Buda Castle. It is a five-day long review, the main day of which is always the 20th. There are as much as 800 masters of professions who introduce themselves at the most spectacular event of the Hungarian folk art. They build up workshops in pavilons placed in the Castle area. There is a kind of a competition in advance, where the professional jury chooses the artefacts of folk and industry art that may be obtained at the market. You can taste the different meals from all parts of Hungary, on the stages you can watch the dance and music performances of folk dance groups invited from Hungary and many other corners of the world.

Budapest International Wine and Sparkling Wine Festival
It is the greatest wine event of the country where more than 170 Hungarian and international wineries present their own products. The peculiarity of this year is that the meal offered as a side-dish with the wines will be the Hungarian truffle. The visitors may get to know the harmony of these tastes, furthermore, an offer of a great variety of cheese, grill terrace and varied stage programs will also follow the wine tasting. However, the wine competition and performances will also be organised together with the registration of the knights of wine and sparkling wine.

Budapest Autumn Festival
At this time for several years now contemporary artist overflow the city to organise the Budapest Autumn Festival (BÖF). To make the city live with a live art - this is how the aim of BÖF may be summarized. There are a number of concerts, exhibitions, tours and further events that are worth visiting.
November
Halloween
On 1st November the underworld is freed from its prison (I mean it in the best sense…)! Crazy people in strange clothes overflow the city and they party till dawn. You will find interesting programs on different spots from morning till late night (pumpkin carving competition, costume-making etc.).
December
New Year's Eve
The biggest party of the year! Choose from the high quality clubs of Budapest and go out to the Váci street at midnight to blow your trumpet (but don't forget to take your earplugs…)!
