Skanzen Programs
The biggest open-air folk collection and museum of the country can
be found on the north-western border of Szentendre. Nowadays the visitors
may choose from several supplementary programs for the sake of cultural
relaxation, useful pastime and learning. If you are interested, there
are a number of new programs this summer, come and check them out.
Parallel with the increasing number of visitors and programs, the buildings
serving the audience have also emerged (restaurant, pub, shops, grocery
shop), there has been a considerable landscaping project and a big playground
has also been built. An outdoor theatre for 600 people was built in 2002
that has housed the so-called Amphiteatre series of events every year.
The Skanzen-Gallery was opened in 2003 which is meant to address the artist
communities, to increase their cooperation and to tie the bonds tighter
among the artist groups of Szentendre.
There are many craftsmen who work in the Tesz-vesz Museum, a bakery
is in operation, the water mill starts working and life continues on the
farm. The favoured Saturday Niggling continues every weekend. You can
try folk skill and sport games in the Game Garden, as a part of a guided
tour the visitors can find out about the curiosities of a house in detail
and the program describing the life on a farm may also be attended.
On the 'Old-fashioned Sundays' a real family program awaits the
guests of the museum. The organizers try to call back the old beautiful
and peacful atmosphere of Sundays with music, chime at midday, family
lunch in the Fogadó restaurant, horse-drawn carriage rides, walks and
embroidery.
The fifth season of the Skanzen Amphiteatre promises a special summer-night
experience to the visitors, the Skanzen-Gallery and the Ethnic Scenery
awaits its visitors all year round.
